From an early age, Yosseline has been raised by her grandmother. The two are very close. They enjoy shelling corn together and doing other tasks.
More recently however, collecting water together for drinking and cooking has been a big challenge. Because of her age, grandma can no longer fetch water with her granddaughter.
“For me it is difficult to go down the mountain,” Grandma Maria told us. It’s even harder to carry the water back up. I am afraid I might fall and break something. Then who would take care of my granddaughter?”
So eight-year-old Yosseline walks by herself down the mountain, and then back up again 3 times a day to fetch the water they need.
Wave of Emotions
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused isolation, loneliness, and depression. While many adults know how to handle their feelings, most young children don’t. In his latest book,
Where’d My Giggle Go? Max offers a fun way for kids to learn to process their emotions and turn their negative feelings into positive ones by helping others.
In the book, you follow a boy who wakes up grumpy and begins searching far and wide for his smile and giggle. Through his looking, he finds the best way to restore his happiness is to help others. As he offers smiles, hugs, and helps others, his joy is restored. The book teaches that both parents and children can cultivate joy and happiness in their lives by following the teaching of Jesus when he said, “It’s better to give than receive” (Acts 20:35).
Khristine's father was born blind and was unable to work during the COVID pandemic. When Operation Blessing learned about their situation, they bought groceries to 40 families in the community including Khristine's.
