Junaid Mohammed died Thursday night in Kano at the age of 73
Mr Mohammed died on Thursday night at the age of 73.
His younger brother, Ahmad Salik, confirmed to journalists that the politician died after a brief illness at his Lamido Crescent residence in Kano.
Mr Mohammed’s funeral prayer is scheduled for Friday morning at the Farm Centre graveyard in Tarauni quarters in the Kano municipal.
A vocal public affairs commentator, Mr Mohammed was the vice Chairman of the Social Democratic Party and its vice-presidential candidate in the 2019 presidential election.
A Soviet Union-trained medical doctor, he practised and taught medicine before he joined politics and became a member of the House of Representatives under the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) of the Second Republic.

The late Second Republic lawmaker representing Kano, Dr. Junaid Mohammed, will be laid to rest on Friday afternoon (today), according to the Islamic rites at Farm Centre Cemetery, in Tarauni, Kano State.
The final burial prayers will be performed by 2:00 pm on his remains at Alfur’qan Juma’t Mosque in the same ancient city of Kano.

Kano, Feb. 11, 2021 Mr Abubakar Zakari, a chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State says the party’s membership registration/revalidation would create fears among the opposition parties.
Zakari, also elected Chairman, Tarauni local government council in Kano State, said this on Thursday shortly after revalidating his APC membership at Unguwar Gano ward in Tarauni Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
“There are indications that some members of the opposition have begun making consultations towards joining the APC since the beginning of the exercise,” he said.
Zakari urged party faithful across the country, especially in Kano State to come out en mass to register and revalidate their membership.

Hundreds of Kano residents have taken to the streets to protest the seizure of their lands which houses their Jumaat Mosque and Graveyard by the Emir of Kano Aminu Ado Bayero.
The residents of Darmanawa in Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State, who are under the auspices of Darmanawa Layout Development Association, accused the Kano emirate council of attempting to illegally grab Y’ar Akwa Eid Praying Ground by Ado Bayero Royal City Trust Fund, an agency of the Kano emirate council.
Addressing journalists at the premises of the land yesterday, Chairman of the eid ground committee, Barrister Tijjani Yahaya alleged that the emirate was planning to snatch the eid ground, located at Darmanawa layout and convert it to residential plots for commercial purpose.
