Cathaoirleach disappointed that Bank of Ireland won t gift Ballymote premises as community hub Published: Tuesday, 20 April 2021 11:29
It’s very disappointing that the Bank of Ireland will not consider gifting its premises in Ballymote to the community as a working hub, as it plans to close its branch in the town at the end of this summer.
That’s the view of the Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council, Dara Mulvey. He says he is dismayed at the response he has received in writing from the Bank of Ireland over the bank’s plans for its facilities in both Ballymote and Tubbercurry.
The enforcement section of Sligo County Council will carry out an inspection on two houses in Tubbercurry to ascertain their current condition.
Last week s meeting of the Ballymote-Tubbercurry Municipal District heard significant concerns from councillors surrounding the state of two houses in the Connolly Park estate.
Director of Services Dorothy Clarke told Cllr Martin Connolly that the council did not own the properties and that they were privately owned.
The council had previously identified the owners, Ms Clarke said.
Cllr Connolly expressed serious concern at the condition of the two houses, numbers 15 and 18, which he said were in very bad condition and were attracting a lot of dumping, with rodents now evident in the area.
Fleadhfest has the opportunity to be the most innovative event held in Ireland this year.
That s according Fred Finn branch member Micheal Ó Domhnaill, who along with Bartley Gavin, addressed councillors on the upcoming event, set to be held in Sligo in early August of this year.
Covid-19 has put an end to the traditional form of Fleadhanna around the country, but Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann will this year compensate for their absence with Fleadhfest, which is set to be a predominantly online celebration of Irish music and culture.
However, in the event that the Covid-19 situation improves, it could become the case that Fleadhfest from August 1st to 9th will more closely resemble the traditional format, as memorably held in Sligo in 2014 and 2015.
Sligo Cathaoirleach hopeful Tubbercurry Garda Station will be extended Published: Thursday, 10 December 2020 15:18
It s hoped the Garda station in Tubbercurry can be extended, as the OPW has acquired an adjacent building on Teeling Street.
Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council, Councillor Dara Mulvey, says he has for some time been highlighting the current inadequate facilities at the Tubbercurry Garda Station, and stressed the need for greater investment in the facility.
Councillor Mulvey told Midwest News he has now received confirmation that the adjacent building has been acquired by the OPW, and he see this as a first step in establishing a more adequate facility for Gardai in Tubbbercurry.
