Amid higher temperatures, the ultraviolet index in the southern Vietnamese region has risen to extreme levels, posing health threats to people exposed to the sun, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
Between Monday and Wednesday, the upstream area of the Mekong River and the southern region will continue to undergo a prolonged period of no rainfall and intense sun during the daytime, which will increase the salinity levels and UV index.
The lowest temperature in the southern region is commonly around 21 to 24 degrees Celsius, while the highest is 31-34 degrees Celsius.
Thu Duc City to commence operations in a day

Thu Duc will kick off its administrative apparatus Friday to officially operate as a city within HCMC.
A meeting on Friday will elect personnel for Thu Duc City’s legislative arm, or People’s Council, and its executive unit, People’s Committee, according to Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Home Affairs.
Thu Duc City came to life on Dec. 9 after the National Assembly greenlighted its establishment as a city within a city in HCMC.
Vietnam appoints younger, more educated provincial Party honchos

The nation s provincial administrative apparatus has got several younger Party honchos with higher educational qualifications in 2020.
Vu Quoc Hung, former chairman of the Central Inspection Commission of the Communist Party of Vietnam, said the nominations for and election of provincial Party leaders for the 2020-2025 term has seen younger people take office.
In the nation’s 63 localities, 51 Party secretaries hold a master s degree or higher educational qualifications.
The youngest of them is Le Quoc Phong, 42, a Hanoian with a master s degree in biology. Phong was voted Party Committee Secretary of the Mekong Delta’s province of Dong Thap in October.

A Vietnamese-Canadian man who unlawfully entered Vietnam from Cambodia last week have tested negative for COVID-19 amid concerns over infections being detected among people making an illegal entry.
The man was identified as 62-year-old D.V.H., who has an address in Ward 3, District 5, Ho Chi Minh City, Dr. Huynh Minh Truc, director of the Center for Disease Control in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, said on Monday afternoon.
He tested negative for COVID-19 on Monday evening, the Can Tho Department of Health said the same day.
PM urges people to report illegal entrants into Vietnam on fresh coronavirus alarm

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has called on people to report anyone they find illegally entering the country, warning they are potential sources of Covid-19 infection.
Speaking at a meeting with province and city authorities from across the country, he said every locality must be vigilant against people crossing borders into Vietnam.
Localities in the southwestern and northern borders in particular must not lower their guard against Covid-19, he said.
