A man and a woman, who were in a relationship, were found dead Tuesday afternoon in a car parked outside a business on Thompson Bridge Road near its intersection with Mount Vernon Road, according to the sheriff’s office.  Deputies said they received a call at 1:30 p.m. April 27 from an employee who spotted the dead couple in the car outside Whelchel s Barber Shop.

The property had stood vacant since February 2019, when Zaxby’s moved as part of a relocation to 1977 Textile Way, off Jesse Jewell Parkway in New Holland. Mountain Valley Bank, a division of Gwinnett County-based Piedmont Bank, originally was looking to build a branch off Thompson Bridge Road at Enota Avenue NW, said Matt Tate, Gainesville’s deputy director of community and economic development.

Tap It growler shop announces big move Tap It Growlers on Thompson Bridge Road features a variety of craft beers. - photo by Scott Rogers A familiar beer shop will start pouring just off the square this month.  Tap It Gainesville Growlers announced its plans to pack up its kegs and bottles and move from Thompson Bridge Road to downtown.  Jim Tortorelli, owner of Tap It, said the new space will be located at 110 Maple St., which he purchased a few months ago. The beer shop will officially close its original business on Sunday, March 14, and open in the new space for St. Patrick’s Day on Wednesday, March 17.

Chattanooga man arrested for Gainesville armed robberie

  Alando Ray Johnson, 33, was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 10 in the Atlanta area by U.S. Marshals, according to Gainesville Police Lt. Kevin Holbrook.    The Gainesville Police Department has charges related to the October 2020 armed robbery at the Hibachi Express on Thompson Bridge Road as well as the December 2020 armed robbery of the Walgreen s on South Enota [Drive], Holbrook said.    Johnson faces a long list of charges in Gainesville including five counts of armed robbery, five counts of aggravated assault, four counts of kidnapping, five counts of terroristic threats, two counts of theft by taking, two counts of firearm possession by a convicted felon and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
