NORTH PROVIDENCE Brian Cervini felt the urge to get a coffee as he navigated his Saturday afternoon in typical fashion.
Cervini, a master of auto body repair, had attended to a smashed Toyota SUV in the North Providence shop. Later, he had urged a colleague to go home to his family. Cervini would take care of the closing chores.
Off to Cumberland Farms he went.
There, in the store on Smith Street, a young man with a history of violence and no previous contact with Cervini stabbed the 60-year-old grandfather in the back and killed him, according to authorities.

MOODY The Moody Police Department raised money to go towards scholarships and classrooms in the name of two fallen officers.
The Moody Police Department Memorial Softball game raised enough money to give two $1,000 scholarships to seniors at Moody High School and two $500 donations to teachers at the school. The scholarships are presented in honor of Officer Keith Turner who was shot and killed in 1998. The classroom donations are in honor of Lt. Stephen Williams who was shot and killed in 2020.
Chief Thomas Hunt said the city of Moody has always provided scholarships for students, but about six years ago, the police department decided to get involved to raise even more money. Hunt said it is important for them to support schools and students.

MOODY – Expenses for the Doris Stanley Memorial Library (otherwise known as the Moody Public Library) not to exceed $2,000 was approved at a brief meeting of the Moody City Council on Monday, April 26.
The request was made by library director Patsy Spradley, who said that the program will be done online for the summer due to the COVID-19 situation as opposed to doing them live in previous programs. Four videos will be produced for children to watch as part of the program.
“We have a good time,” she said. “And I know that it’s a lot more fun to be able to go and watch our live shows, but this will suffice this year.”
