Moody to apply for grant for water system improvements

By Nathan Prewett MOODY – At a regular meeting of the Moody City Council on July 12, a resolution was passed to apply for a grant from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) to conduct water system improvements for two companies in the city. Moody City Hall The council heard monthly reports from department heads, including the police and fire chiefs. Police Chief Thomas Hunt reported that for the month of June there were 1,285 calls, 29 arrests, 120 warning tickets, 200 total citations, 93 reports, 48 misdemeanors, 40 felonies and 16,287 miles were driven. For the month of June, Fire Chief Larry Horton reported that there were 212 total responses, three fires (two residential and one woods, grass or rubbish), 31 lift assists, 11 vehicle wrecks, 22 false alarms and one mutual aid. The average dispatch to enroute time was one minute, 16 seconds and dispatch to arrival time was 6 minutes and 31 seconds.

Local thanks Moody fire, police departments at council meeting

By Nathan Prewett MOODY – At a regular meeting of the Moody City Council on Monday, May 10, a local thanked the police and fire departments for assisting his wife after a recent car accident. The meeting began with the council hearing monthly reports from department heads, including Police Chief Thomas Hunt and Fire Chief Larry Horton. Hunt reported 1,102 calls for the month of April, as well as 48 arrests, 89 warning citations, 222 citations, 84 misdemeanors, 30 felonies, and $333.74 was spent on vehicle maintenance. For April Horton reported that there was a total of 176 responses, three fires (one woods, one vehicle and one rubbish), 97 emergency medical calls, 72 vehicle wrecks, 26 public service, 24 lift assists, nine false alarms and received mutual aid twice. The average dispatch to route time was one minute and 17 seconds and the average dispatch to arrival time was six minutes and 14 seconds.

Expenses for Moody Library s Summer Reading Program approved at council meeting

By Nathan Prewett MOODY – Expenses for the Doris Stanley Memorial Library (otherwise known as the Moody Public Library) not to exceed $2,000 was approved at a brief meeting of the Moody City Council on Monday, April 26. The request was made by library director Patsy Spradley, who said that the program will be done online for the summer due to the COVID-19 situation as opposed to doing them live in previous programs. Four videos will be produced for children to watch as part of the program. “We have a good time,” she said. “And I know that it’s a lot more fun to be able to go and watch our live shows, but this will suffice this year.”
