LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Shaken and battered by last year’s storms, some local staples are just now getting back on their feet.
The Salvation Army Family Store is now back serving the community and taking donations for the first time since Hurricane Laura.
Businesses big and small have had to navigate through a lot of uncertainty during the last eight months. With post-storm recovery and daily hiring challenges, the Salvation Army is just happy to be back serving the community.

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - In the last year, the Salvation Army of Southwest Louisiana has been consistent in their efforts to serve the community through the pandemic and amid the lingering devastation from the recent hurricanes.
The organization received damage during the hurricane, but they don’t see this as a set back and continue helping as much as they can.
“We are helping with water bills and electric bills,” said Commanding Officer Thomas Marion. “We have a new thing that we are doing that helps with prescriptions. We are helping with gas if people need gas.”

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - The Salvation Armyâs Red Kettle Campaign is continuing for one more week this holiday season.
For the remainder of the week, anyone wishing to donate to the Red Kettle Campaign can do so online at SalvationArmyALMKettle.org or at the register during checkout at participating local retailers.
The Salvation Army started with a goal of $125,000 this season and have been able to raise $84,454.96 so far.

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - It’s crunch time for the Salvation Army as they try and fight off two hurricanes and a pandemic to raise money to support their programs.
With one week left to accept donations, the Southwest Louisiana branch is hoping to close out the 2020 campaign stronger than ever.
Here’s how your donations will make a big difference this year:
“Most years donations help with our feeding programs that we do out of our soup kitchen,” said Lt. Thomas Marion. “It helps with our men’s shelter and Christmas time. This year is completely different.”
