Daunte Wright s family has received threats following his death, attorney says

Chyna Whitaker, the mother of
Daunte Wright‘s son, spoke publicly for the first time Friday since the 20-year-old Black man was killed by police near Minneapolis last week.
At a press conference, Whitaker, 20, explained how Wright’s death has impacted her and the toddler,
Daunte Wright Jr, they shared, saying that she is in shock and has yet to fully process reality.
“I never thought, like, in a million years that this would happen. Everything’s still all really just hitting me now because I still haven’t fully, like, understood everything going on right now,” she said.
“I’m just really hurt for my son because, like, he doesn’t have his father now and it’s like it’s kind of stressful on me because like I really don’t want to do this by myself,” she added.

Not yet 2 years old, Daunte Wright Jr. lost his father to a police shooting in Brooklyn Center this week. Friday, as he grabbed at a microphone while in his grandmother s arms, his mother described her family s uncertain future. I never thought in a million years that this would happen, Chyna Whitaker said at a Minneapolis news conference. Everything is still all just hitting me now. I still haven t really fully understood everything going on right now. I m just really hurt for my son. He doesn t have his father now.
She called Daunte Jr., her only grandchild, a miracle baby because he was born prematurely. I m hurt that he will not have his dad, she said. He will have pictures. He will have history. He will have family that tells him about his dad on both sides. but he will not have his biological father.
Bowers spoke of the impacts of a child growing up in a fatherless home. He (Wright Jr.) is going to be affected throughout his entire life not having his father there to take him to prom or give him advice, to argue with and not having his father to be able to emulate. and to be able to mimic like my kids do to me, he said. Who is he going to follow through life?
