Litterpicking teams were out on the A40 in Herefordshire during a night closure last week. A spokesperson for Herefordshire Council and Balfour Beatty Living places said the crews worked with Highways England and Kier to safely clear the litter. The teams worked all night and removed 1100kg between the of A4137 to Ganarew Bridge, the spokesperson said. Volunteers across the county have also been clearing rubbish from verges and beauty spots across Herefordshire in recent weeks. Among them is 17-year-old Greg Dunsford, whose efforts have seen him collect more than 100 sacks of rubbish, and Thomas Collingwood, who last year picked tons of litter from the verges of the A49 between Hereford and Leominster, and has this year turned his attentions to the A465 out of Hereford.
