Webb County awards $1.4M contract for fairgrounds project management

The Webb County Commissioners Court on Thursday awarded a $1.4 million contract to Gilpin Engineering to serve as the county’s owner representative in the design and construction of the forthcoming county fairgrounds.
The Commissioners Court had pushed back this vote on Monday so that their attorneys and engineer Judd Gilpin could whittle down the contract so as not to duplicate services with the construction manager and architect. After removing a few unnecessary services, they reduced the price by $200,000, said the court’s attorney Nathan Bratton.

Commissioners Court fear duplication of services in Webb County fairgrounds contracts

Webb County Commissioners Court was slated to approve the contracts for the project manager, construction manager and architect for the county fairgrounds project on Monday. But fearing a duplication of services between the parties and the high cost of the contracts, the commissioners voted to approve only the construction manager’s contract, and will hold a special meeting on Thursday to discuss the other two.
Leyendecker Construction was awarded a $2,855,640 contract for the fairgrounds, which includes pre-construction services, construction overhead, profit and general conditions charges. The Webb County Sheriff’s Office kicked off National Telecommunicators Week with a proclamation and awards ceremony at the Webb County Commissioners Courtroom on Tuesday.
“These fine men and women deserve all the respect and admiration for the type of work they do day in and day out. Their shifts and long hours of sacrifice do not go unnoticed,” Sheriff Martin Cuellar said.
Cuellar and County Judge Tano Tijerina presented certificates of recognition to the telecommunicators. Each dispatcher also received a recognition from the Office of Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Laredo.
