Among the lessons I think we all learned in 2020 is not to put too much stock into predictions. This has always been a theme for me, and it’s never been truer than this year. Situations, and life in general, can quickly change beyond what any of us could imagine.
Having said that, it does seem safe for me to predict that no matter what comes our way in the new year, your St. Louis County government the County Board and staff will rise to the occasion to continue serving our citizens’ needs. This pandemic has stretched our resources and capacity across departments county-wide beyond anything we’ve ever experienced. And yet our services continued. Minister says effective policy will be evolved for leasing out minerals’ sites

Punjab Minister for Industries and Trade Mian Aslam Iqbal on Wednesday stressed the need for ensuring optimum use of modern technology to explore underground minerals.
He was chairing a meeting to review the performance of Mines and Minerals Department, exploration of underground minerals and leasing of sites here at Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) office. Secretary Mines and Minerals Department, head of monitoring unit, Mines DG, experts and other officers concerned attended the meeting.
The minister said billions of rupees would be invested for setting up of new cement plants in Punjab and an effective policy would also have to be evolved for leasing out of minerals’ sites.

KHAR: The elders of 18 villages in Ghundo area in Khar tehsil on Wednesday staged a protest outside the Civil Colony in Nawagai against the local administration and Mines and Minerals Department for awarding lease to non-locals in the district.
Speaking to the protesters, the elders said that they had signed an agreement of mines lease of a mountain with a local resident of Bajaur but the administration and minerals department awarded it to non-locals, which will not be accepted.
They said the leasees were residents of Pandyalai in Mohmand tribal district and all the family members had identity cards of the same district.
Govt Shifts Focus Towards Modern Technologies for Exploration of Minerals
Punjab’s Minister for Industries and Trade, Mian Aslam Iqbal, has directed the Mines and Minerals Department (MMD) to use state-of-the-art technologies for the exploration of the underground minerals.
The minister chaired a meeting at the Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) office on Wednesday to review the MMD’s performance, exploration of underground minerals, and leasing of sites.

The meeting was attended by the Provincial Secretary MMD, Amir Ijaz Akbar, the Head of the Monitoring Unit, the DG Mines, experts, and other concerned officers.
The Provincial Secretary gave a detailed briefing about the steps that the department had taken to explore and utilize the mineral resources, and discussed the next plan of action.
