AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Eight entities have received funding to help improve the City of Amarillo in various ways through art.
The City of Amarillo Beautification and Public Arts Advisory Board have recently announced the recipients of its Mural Grant Program.
The goal of the Mural Grant Program is to help improve the city’s appearance, increase employment opportunities in the arts, raise awareness and appreciation of the value of art, create civic pride, reduce blight and encourage tourism.
Don Harrington Discovery Center Continues Coffee With Cuties
Don Harrington Discovery Center on February 5th is having their monthly installment of Coffee & Cuties. Coffee & Cuties offers entertainment for the kids and gives mom, dad or grandparents the opportunity to sit back and relax! Your child will participate in a story time that is paired with a fun craft or science activity, both led by one of DHDC Science Guides.
February’s theme is chemistry with reading of the book, Edward Gets Messy written by Rita Meade and illustrated by Olga Stern, plus the kids will be able to show their artistic side making fizzing hearts and fluffy slime. They ll also get to experience Cupid s Toothpaste and learn the science behind it.

Explore the science of how things move by land, sea and air at the Don Harrington Discovery Center’s new traveling exhibit, From Here to There, which opened on Friday, Jan. 15.
According to a news release, Lift, launch and levitate as you experiment with hands-on exhibits that make learning about gravity, friction, and the laws of motion fun. Ride a hovercraft to experience how air pressure works, adjust wind speed to form fabric into an airfoil, and float your sailboat to experiment with the effect of wind, rudder and sail positions.
