Canton Planning Board members Robin McClintock and Chairman Tom Peters address selectmen Thursday about trimming the 2021-11 budget. It was agreed to cut back on office supplies, mileage reimbursement, training and advertising.

CANTON Selectmen signed warrants Thursday to prepare for the annual Town Meeting scheduled for 5 p.m. June 10 at the municipal complex. It may be held in the meeting room or the fire station bays rather than outside at the ball field, selectmen said.
The board voted to charge the Canton Water District $2,000 a year for snowplowing the 1-mile access road to sewer treatment plant off Staples Hill Road, an increase from the $500 annual charge. The money will go into the General Fund this year and the Highway Department account next year, Selectman Don Hutchins said Friday.

Victor Leinberger holds the Boston Post Cane on Thursday while Canton Selectman Russell Adams hands him a plaque honoring him as the town’s oldest resident. The 95-year-old former New Yorker who moved to Canton 30 years ago said, “I like this town. It’s very nice.”

CANTON Victor Leinberger, 95, received the town’s Boston Post Cane and a plaque from Selectman Russell Adams during Thursday’s selectmen meeting.
He’s lived in town for 30 years.
“After moving over here from New York after retirement I am very happy,” He said. “I like this town. It’s very nice, everybody is very nice, thank you.”
