Columbiana has not given up hopes for prom | News, Sports, Jobs

Special to the Journal COLUMBIANA The city school district is hoping to give upperclassmen a chance to enjoy prom this year, and are also looking at having an outdoor graduation ceremony. District officials have lamented the fact that upperclassmen weren’t able to enjoy the formal dance or normal graduation ceremony last year as a result of the pandemic, so they are considering what can be done this year bring some type of normalcy back for students. Students have struggled with some of the changes over the last year that schools across the nation have had to embrace in order to avoid a large spread of the Coronavirus, and the Columbiana Board of Education and school staff want to do what they can to increase student morale while adhering to social distancing guidelines.

Special to the Salem News COLUMBIANA Staff from three Columbiana County school districts will receive the COVID-19 vaccination this weekend, joining the first wave of school staff across Ohio to do so. According to the Ohio Department of Education website, Columbiana, East Palestine, and Beaver Local will be the first school districts in the county to receive the vaccine. Several other county school districts are in line to follow over the next four weeks as part of the K-12 School Staff Vaccination Program through the state. The local vaccinations are scheduled to take place Saturday at Columbiana High School, and include school districts affiliated with the Mahoning County Educational Service Center.
