Artist Spotlight: Mona Stratos
Artist
Mona Stratos was born in Massachusetts, went to the Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia and lived many years in New York City and Westchester County, rich with the history of the Hudson River School. For the past 20 years she has lived in Woodstock, Connecticut, landscape painting, traveling to the shores of the Cape to her beloved Provincetown, home to generations of ancestors who fished from schooners that traveled to the Grand Banks, to the rugged coast of Maine and the mountains of New Hampshire. Her primary medium is oil. She has won awards for her paintings from the Cape Cod Art Association where she was an elected artist to Lyme Art Association placing first for New England Landscape show juried by Don Demers. She has exhibited in many juried shows from Connecticut Plein Air Painters and the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts. CLAREMONT If you ve been wondering what s happening with the U.S. Highway 14 construction project west from Dodge Center to Owatonna, the Minnesota Department of Transportation answered questions Wednesday in a pair of virtual meetings. Much of the work has taken place away from the current Highway 14, so it s not as evident, said Tory Thompson, MnDOT District 6 project manager.

SOMERS, CT A new concept in the hair and beauty industry - Modern Salon Concepts, in fact - is nearly ready to make its debut in Somersville, in the longtime home of a former pizza place.
Owner Don Demers purchased the property at 112 Main St. in late October. The former site of Frankie s Firehouse Restaurant had been closed since summer 2019. Formerly co-owner of a large salon in north-central Connecticut, Demers sold his interest in August when the opportunity to be at the front end of a trend in the industry arose.
