LAWRENCES’ in Crewkerne is busy getting their salerooms ready for their Summer Fine Art auction next week, which comprises more than 2,200 lots, with a sale every day of the week. Kicking off the series on Monday (July 19) is the Decorative Arts, Ceramics and Oriental section. Included in this sale is a private collection of studio pottery and contemporary glass, collected by a couple in South Somerset. It includes two pottery vessels by world renowned potter Dame Magdalene Odundo, one of the world’s most valuable living ceramic artists whose pieces have made over £200,000. The first owner of this magnificent silver antique was John Walton, the Archdeacon of Derby from 1590-1603, whose name appears on the foot.
