Last summer, Midtown brasserie Quality Bistro cobbled together a row of sun-shaded tables and chairs on the sidewalk along West 55th Street, called it an outdoor patio, and launched open-air dining for the first time. Come winter, sturdy, white tents were erected over the tables and chairs, chandeliers were hung, a checkerboard floor was laid over the sidewalk, some potted plants were added in the corners, and the outdoor patio transformed into a heated outdoor winter garden.
Now, in a third level-up that is “really bonkers,” as co-founder Michael Stillman puts it, the company installed a row of 14 private cabins covered in greenery in front of the restaurant, to add onto the tents, wooden benches and shaded tables for two lining the curb.
New York just got a few new Michelin star restaurants.
On Thursday, Michelin released its 2021 New York restaurant guide, which awarded 68 eateries with one, two or three stars. Of those 68, seven restaurants are new to the list, each receiving one Michelin Star.
The new eateries include Tsukimi, Rezdôra, Jua, Don Angie, Kochi, Francie and Vestry.
Those seven restaurants join 42 other one-star restaurants in the New York Michelin Guide.
New York also has 14 two-star restaurants and only 5 one-star restaurants, which were all on last year’s list.
The five three-star restaurants include Masa, Per Se, Le Bernardin, Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare and the famed Eleven Madison Park, which recently announced it would become fully vegan when it reopens in June.
