Kawanda Polk has partnered with Jones to host the event, and is in charge of ticket sales.
âItâs still early yet. I think weâll see more people come for the concert,â she said.
Bob Cox, who works with CTE, said that the event was 18 months in the making.
âIâve been talking about this for at least the past 18 months with Bear,â Cox said. âWe really started getting into the nuts and bolts about 6 months ago.â
An Independence Day event event set for Saturday south of Killeen, will no longer feature a fireworks show, the eventâs main organizer said on Wednesday.
The event at 13682 Maxdale Road opens noon Saturday at Farris Wheel Ranch, and will feature food trucks, âfamily funâ vendors and live bands.
Event organizer Bear Jones was also planning to have a fireworks display Saturday night, but that is no longer the case, he said.
Farris Wheel Ranch is the second choice for venue, as the Killeen City Council voted 6-1 last week to reject Jonesâ bid to hold the large, 25-minute fireworks display at the Killeen Special Events Center. The new location, a ranch owned by Killeen assistant city Manager Ann Farris, was selected as it represented a more rural alternative from which to host a fireworks display.
