Living with coyotes at Lake Tahoe

Living in a town so intertwined with nature allows residents to hike desolate trails, ski wide open slopes and swim in crystal clear waters. With the privilege to reside in the wilderness comes the responsibility of sharing with non-human inhabitants. Online apps and websites like Nextdoor have become the hotspot for people sharing their likes, dislikes, misinformation and fear of Tahoe’s wildlife. One animal that has made a common appearance on the page sparking discussion is the coyote. Wildlife organizations constantally urge residents and visitors to get educated and coexist with Tahoe’s wildlife. Coyotes are native to the basin and for many, they are a beautiful reminder of nature. The coyote has been on the lands long before European arrival and are an intrinsic part of the ecosystem along with having a respected place in the Washoe Tribe’s creation stories.

Of all the burgers in the land, if you held my feet to the fire and asked me what my favorite style was, I might settle on the general western-style burger. Like this week’s BBQ Burger, many places have slight variations on the classic, but all give you similar feels. 1 dead, 1 in critical condition in South Tahoe shooting

Bill Rozak / Tahoe Daily Tribune SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. A quiet residential area in South Lake Tahoe was awoken in the early hours Wednesday morning by gunshots. South Lake Tahoe Police responded to numerous 911 calls of shots fired at about 1 a.m. in the Tahoe Sierra neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male with numerous gunshot wounds, said a press release. That male was transported from the scene and later pronounced dead, officials said. A second male with a gunshot wound was also transported from the scene and is in stable, but critical, condition. Sierra Boulevard was closed between Kubal and Rose avenues to through traffic. Authorities at about 9:15 a.m. were removing crime tape from the scene that covered about two blocks.

Wind, above average temps forecast this week for Lake Tahoe

  Lake Tahoe weather this week is starting off windy but mostly it will feature sunny skies and above average temperatures. Wind howled through the trees from Sunday night into Monday morning and the gusts are expected to get stronger. People enjoy sunny weather this weekend near Cave Rock at Lake Tahoe. Bill Rozak / Tahoe Daily Tribune The National Weather Service issued a lake wind advisory that goes into effect at 10 a.m. Monday and lasts through 8 p.m. Southwest winds from 15 to 20 mph are expected with gusts up to 35 mph. Waves over 2 to 3 feet are forecast for mid-lake to the eastern shores.
