Anthony La Pinta, who is representing Norris, told News 4 New York that his client is a hero. Joseph Norris is a hero firefighter who saved lives during the Deutsche Bank tragedy [fire] in 2007 and has the the full support of his family and the New York City Fire Department, La Pinta said.
Meanwhile, the FDNY said that it has suspended Norris without pay for the maximum time allowed of 28 days.
If convicted of the top count, Norris faces a maximum sentence of 8 1/3 to 25 years in prison. Norris hid his face while holding his pregnant wife s hand as he left court in Riverhead Wednesday, not responding to reporter questions.

TAMPA, Fla. (BAY NEWS 9) - A police officer is dead after a wrong way driver struck his vehicle.
The crash happened at around 1 a.m. Tuesday on Interstate 275.
Investigators said the other vehicle was driving the wrong way down the highway at a high rate of speed.
The 25-year-old driver of that vehicle was also killed.
Tampa Officer Jesse Madsen was 45 years old and had worked on the force for 16 years. An officer with the Tampa Police Dept. died when his vehicle was struck by another one going the wrong way on I-275 at a high rate of speed.

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Several communities are mourning the sudden loss of an officer who was killed in the line of duty Tuesday morning after police say he veered into vehicle to save other motorists from a wrong-way driver in Tampa, Fla.
Master Patrol Officer Jesse Masden, 45, was a native of Shaker Heights and a Marine combat veteran. He leaves behind a wife and three children: a 16-year-old son, a 12-year-old son, and a 10-year-old daughter.

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) Two drivers were hospitalized Monday morning following a wrong-way collision on state Route 94 in San Diegoâs Emerald Hills area.
The crash happened just after 3:20 a.m. on eastbound SR-94 near Federal Boulevard, the California Highway Patrol said.
Witnesses reported seeing a Nissan Altima traveling westbound on the eastbound lanes near the SR-125/SR-94 transition. A short time later, the wrong-way driver slammed head-on into a silver Volkswagen.
At least one witness pulled over to help the injured drivers before emergency crews arrived.

Sadly, Edwina Steward of Richland, died when she collided head on with a car driven by 16-year-old Kylie Cushing, who was then rushed to an area hospital Troopers said her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
Troopers and investigators did not say where Steward began driving
west in the east bound lanes, but she did somewhere before the I-182 bridge over the Columbia to Richland.
