Taking serious note of the fact that the savings of two senior citizens were swindled by using forged signatures, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has observed that it is the duty cast upon the banks to verify the signatures of account holders and then clear the instrument for encashment.
Perusing the signatures, Justice B. Pugalendhi observed that even a layman with his naked eye can tell that the signatures varied drastically. The court took serious note of the fact that signatures were sent to a private lab for verification. Such practice needs to be deprecated.

Instead of joining the comfort of his family business, Mayur Hassija has taken to rescuing street dogs and fighting for animal rights
Mayur Hassija’s family does not quite fathom his compassion for animals, especially dogs. Last month he got 14 indie dogs adopted, his highest in a month so far. “But when I return home with stray dogs in my arms, my parents and brother do not criticise me. Rather, they sometimes sponsor my activities,” says the 35-year-old, who has taken up a job with Ola and Rapido to fund his growing animal welfare activities.
Officials said the fire was put out by und 2.15am on Thursday.
MADURAI: As many as 10 electronic goods shops on the Town Hall Road in Madurai were gutted in a fire that broke out on Wednesday night. No death or injury was reported.
A fire and rescue services department official said they received a call at 10.45pm. A fire tender from Thideer Nagar station led by station fire officer Venkatesan reached the spot. The fire had already spread to three shops when the first tender reached.
Other fire stations were alerted. Soon, fire tenders and personnel from Meenakshi Temple, Tallakulam, Anupanadi stations reached the spot. In total, six fire tenders were engaged.

All India Lawyers Union on Tuesday staged a demonstration at Tallakulam here against the newly enacted farms laws. Advocates raised slogans in support of farmers and said that the new farm laws were against the interest of the farmers.
Advocates who took out a march from the District Court to Tallakulam said agriculture was the backbone of the country. The farm laws catered to the interest of the Corporate companies, they said at the demonstration.
Agriculture is under the State list. Therefore, the State government must oppose the new farm laws that were against the farmers, said All India Lawyers Union General Secretary N. Muthu Amuthanathan.
