Committee to examine £5.9 million overspend in council’s Children’s Services for first eight months of year
Members of the Safeguarding, Communities & Wellbeing Scrutiny Committee will examine the reasons why Children’s Services are reporting an overspend of £5.9m for eight months of the financial year.
The broad issue of the overspend recently surfaced during public budget discussions, where questions were raised by Cllr Dana Davies over who ‘signed it off’. Last month when the budget was discussed again the matter raised where Cllr Davies referred to an £8m overspend figure – substantially more than in the report before councillors next week.

Apologies from two councillors for ‘coming across as aggressive’ and accusing officers of manipulating data
Two councillors have issued apologies after two separate incidents during a Planning Committee meeting last night.
Planning committee members had been discussing plans from Wrexham Council to convert the former Borras Park Infants school building into a Welsh-medium school.
Concerns had been raised by several councillors throughout the meeting over existing traffic and parking issues in the area, which some felt could be exacerbated if the plans were approved.
However the debate saw two members of the council’s coalition administration warned over their conduct toward both planning and highways officer’s involved in the planning report.

Over 2,000 sandbags were deployed in the fight against the recent flooding it has been revealed.
The data came to light as Wrexham Council’s Chief Executive Ian Bancroft gave a ‘factual update’ over the efforts locally ,”We had heavy rainfall on Thursday, that resulted in the River Dee reaching its highest recorded levels. We were dealing with an incident that was very severe in terms of the height of the River Dee due to the rainfall, that resulted clearly in a severe flood warning.
