MORE needed to register says Cllr Matt Brereton CONCERNS are growing that a government deadline may hinder high-speed broadband being installed in the Duddon valley as leaders appeal for more people to register. So far only 125 homes out of the 350 homes needed to make the installation viable have done so. Broadband for the Rural North (B4RN) has given communities in Broughton and Kirkby a breathing space of an extra three more months, to register an interest in a scheme, which will see money coming from central government to help pay for installation. Matt Brereton, who is the county councillor for High Furness, still hopes that 40 percent of homes and businesses will register in time, paving the way for B4RN to be funded by Government to carry out the work. He said: The department for culture, media and sport has extra funding for rural areas to receive high-speed broadband and will release funding to B4RN to lay the cables if enough interest is there.
