BOARDMAN A series of studies is underway in Boardman Township on pedestrians and vehicle traffic.
Collaborative efforts among multiple agencies are focused on two traffic veins in the township: U.S. Route 224 and Market Street.
Officials across the board said they find no pattern to pedestrian-involved crashes, as they seem to occur at all hours of the day and have not been confined to one area on either road.
BOARDMAN Jamia Dent, 17, of Boardman, was arraigned Tuesday and pleaded not true, the equivalent to a not guilty plea, to three counts of attempted murder, each with a three-year firearm specification.
She was arrested Monday after four juveniles, including herself, were injured by gunfire after 12:30 a.m. Sunday at 188 Stadium Drive.
Police released the juvenile suspect’s name Tuesday.
She is being detained in the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center in Youngstown.
Dent faces a May 18 hearing in juvenile court, and another in June to determine if the case will remain a juvenile matter.
According to Boardman police Chief Todd Werth, the victims and suspect are “known to each other.” The motive for the shooting is under investigation, but it was not a random act, he
BOARDMAN A juvenile girl was arrested Monday on attempted murder charges after a weekend shooting.
She was arrested on three charges of attempted murder with gun specifications, and three counts of felonious assault with gun specifications.
Her name and age, as well as victims’ names, have not been released by Boardman Township police.
It is possible additional charges could be filed in the near future, said police Chief Todd Werth, in a news release.
A boy and girl, both 17, were taken to the hospital by friends after a shooting occurred at 188 Stadium Drive near Salinas Trail just after 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Werth said.
BOARDMAN A new traffic signal in the township is causing some concern.
Located at the intersection of Maple Avenue and Southern Boulevard, the lights were first tested Friday, but are blinking caution for motorists.
The light was added because a railroad needed a protective crossing, Marilyn Kenner, township road superintendent, said during a Boardman Township trustees special meeting Monday. There are no gates to warn motorists when trains utilize the intersection.
“The gates could not be there because of the way the road is configured,” she said. “The only way they could have protection for the railroad crossing was to install a signal,” Kenner said.
