Orange chief, Selectboard discuss frequency, merit of no-knock warrants

ORANGE The town’s police chief came before the Selectboard on Wednesday to discuss no-knock warrants and their use after one member expressed continued concern about the controversial police tactic.
Chief James Sullivan said a police reform bill signed into law by Gov. Charlie Baker late last year requires no-knock warrants to be issued by a judge and only after authorities have articulated probable cause to believe a particular individual is armed and dangerous and would be a threat to officers’ safety if a police presence was announced. Sullivan said authorities must also prove there are no minors or people ages 65 or older in the home, though the state’s website mentions there is an exception when those children or older adults are themselves at risk of harm.

Over the past three weeks, we’ve had at least three shootings in the Fifth and one person killed. Last week, there was also a fatality in the Third District. All of these shootings have happened in our community, often a couple of streets over from my home. As a district representative for the past three years, I’ve had to fight with three police chiefs to get someone from the Hamden Police Department to reach out to me in the aftermath of a serious incident. Yet again the Department did not reach out to me following any of the recent shootings. I found out about a recent home invasion in my district by scanning news reports.

The Georgetown Fire Department says it s hiring but it has noticed a lack of interest as it looks for paramedics to join the team. FOX 7 Austin s Steven Sarabia has more.
GEORGETOWN, Texas - The City of Georgetown is in need of paramedics. We’re looking to hire anywhere from 7 to 10 people early this summer, said John Sullivan the Georgetown Fire Department Chief. We’re in a niche market for paramedics, I’m talking about individuals who already have that certification as a paramedic in the state of Texas, Sullivan says.
