Siskiyou emergency responders train in swift water rescue techniques

Shasta Area Newspapers After 10 years of work, Siskiyou County Fire Department agencies along with CAL FIRE and Mountain Medics have created a new well trained and equipped water rescue team. CAL FIRE Siskiyou Unit Captain Casey Cohen has been one of the driving forces behind building the Siskiyou County Water Rescue Team.  “We go on about 15 to 20 water rescues a year,” Cohen said. “Now with COVID-19, water recreation in Siskiyou County has increased and we are expecting more rescues. We are excited that all the different agencies are working together under the same guidelines and performance standards.” 

Massillon police canine team Ryan Wood and Loki begin street patrols

When these dogs get bored, they tend to explore, he said. Wood and Loki have joined Massillon s other canine team, which consists of officer Anthony Crabtree and K-9 Luiz. The latter two began regular patrols Jan. 28. The city has not had two active K-9 units working simultaneously in decades, according to Chief Keith Moser. It s the first time since I ve been at Massillon with two on the road, said Moser, who joined the city police ranks in 1995. Wood joined the Massillon police force in late 2015, and was picked in late February for the canine duty. He and Loki started joint training March 1 and finished on April 16.
