It’s become painfully obvious that the Chicago Bears need a top-down organizational re-structuring.
But it is also clear that the franchise isn’t going to make the type of in-season changes that will declare to the football world:
Hey, we’re open for business!
Meanwhile, teams that have already started cleaning house are getting a head start on interviewing top candidates. Among them is someone Bears fans have grown familiar with in recent years:
The #Lions plan to interview GM candidate Louis Riddick for their vacant job on Friday, source said. The current broadcaster last worked in the NFL in 2013 in the #Eagles front office. The first known external candidate to be interviewed by Detroit.

• Can you glue a .gif to your eyelids? Because Akiem Hicks is just ridiculous. Watch what he does to the blocker on his way to wrecking a ball-carrier. My goodness!
• In a hypothetical situation in which the NFL adds an expansion team and the Bears had to protect 10 players, Akiem Hicks would definitely be on the list. But what about Cairo Santos? On an offense that has struggled to put up points, the only player who scores with any consistency is the place-kicker. Santos has made 18 consecutive field goals, improving his success rate to 91.3 percent. The Bears don’t have a kicker under contract for 2021. And while the decision between Santos and Eddy Piñeiro might be difficult on the surface, Santos’ success is above and beyond what was expected. I think he’s a keeper.

Admittedly, there are times where my writing can get too bogged down in big-picture stuff, which tends to keep me from finding joy in the beauty of a game I love watching. And with things being what they are, it’s been easy for my eyes look away to the future, to the horizon, instead of where the Bears are doing on a given game day. Striking a balance has its challenges.

If you ask me, we’re well past the point of simply
hinting at any potential change coming to Chicago’s football team in the near future, because at this rate, it feels inevitable – especially when some of the bigger national names start weighing in on what’s happening.
For example, you can add long-time NFL reporter Peter King to the chorus of voices who believe change is on the horizon for the Bears.
