Cardiovascular Research provides more encouraging news for those embracing a plant-based lifestyle: Eating a diet rich in plant-based foods was linked to a lower risk for cardiovascular disease and atherosclerosis as compared to diets that include animal products.
Atherosclerosis, which is sometimes called hardening of the arteries affects 14 million Americans, and Cardiovascular Artery Disease, or CAD, is a leading cause of heart attack, stroke and fatal heart conditions, or Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) according to MedScape figures. Approximately 80 million people, or 36.3 percent of the population, have cardiovascular disease, and often the beginnings or atherosclerosis start in early life and don t show up until later, when there are full-blown blockages and complications from elevated blood pressure in the body.

A high-end sneaker and streetwear store, Ground Up MKE, is open on Brady Street.
Ground Up MKE is run by 18-year-old friends Ben Lenikman and Kameron James. The pair met selling and swapping sneakers around Milwaukee mostly through Facebook and Instagram.
The sleekly designed store at 1237 E. Brady St. has shelves full of sneakers from brands like Nike, Adidas, Yeezy and Supreme. Prices range from $100 to around $2,000 for exclusive or rare pairs.
Ground Up also sells T-shirts, hat and other clothing items from brands like Chrome Hearts and Bape. The store also sells skate decks. It s OK to come here and just look around, too, Lenikman said. I know some people are afraid of coming in and not buying anything. We re more about having an experience when you come in.
