AN April Fool’s Day publicity stunt by the Bees Knees pub group caused a stir in an East Lancashire town this morning. The Lancashire Telegraph reported how new signs were put up outside the Turf Hotel renaming the pub ‘The Royal Coyle’ after former Burnley FC manager Owen Coyle. The pub will be opening in May and will have a new feel and look after a £80k investment Owners said it was fitting the pub jokingly would be called after Owen Coyle who got Burnley promoted in 2009 but then caused consternation by jumping ship to Bolton during the Premier League season.

Gin donation from Hollywood stars helps Wrexham pub raise money for charity This article is old - Published: Saturday, Jan 23rd, 2021 The gift of a case of gin from the Hollywood stars keen to buy Wrexham Football Club to the historic pub alongside the stadium is helping a family support charity backed by North Wales’s policing chief. Regulars at the famous Turf Hotel alongside the club’s Racecourse Ground have been enjoying 18 bottles of Aviation Gin donated by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney – with the cash from the sales raising £1,300. Turf landlord Wayne Jones has handed over £500 of that windfall to Home-Start, the charity based in the town which helps families struggling to cope with raising young children and which is a favourite of North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner Arfon Jones.
