Suspension: Audit report indicts Azman Air

NCAA had in March suspended the activities of Azman Air because of safety concerns. Daily Trust learnt Sunday that the Airline has fired its Head of Maintenance as part of its action plan aimed at implementing the findings of the NCAA audit team. A copy of the audit report sighted by our correspondent on Sunday indicated that the airline, which was suspended on 15th March 2021 over serial safety infractions was in violation of many provisions of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig.CARs) prior to its suspension. The audit covered Management, Flight Operations, Maintenance and Economic audit premised on the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations Nig.CARs Part 9, NCARs Parts 1, 2, 5, 6, 8,9 & 20 and Nigeria Civil Aviation Act 2006 NCARs Part 18.

This was contained in a detailed audit of the airline by NCAA following the suspension of the airline on March 15, 2021. The audit which covered management, flight operations, maintenance and economic operations of the airline drew its criteria from Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations NCARs Part 5, 6, 8,9 & 20 to access whether it was due to return to flight operations. The regulator in the audited report signed by the NCAA DG, Capt. Musa Nuhu dated April 2, 2021, said the airline violated Section 12 (1) of the Civil Aviation Act, 2006 as regards non-remittance of five per cent of the Ticket Sales Charge and Cargo Sales Charge.

By Lawani Mikairu Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, audit report has indicted Azman Air whose operations was suspended recently to enable the regulator carry out safety audit of the airline. The audit focused on the airline operations, airworthiness, training, licensing, financial health and any other area determined to be necessary during the exercise . Director General, NCAA, Captain Musa Nuhu in the 19 page audited report, signed and dated April 2, 2021, listed areas Azman airline defaulted. The report says, “in the case of Management personnel required for Commercial Air transport Operations, Azman Air was found not to be in compliance with the provisions of Nig.CARs 9.2.2.2 (a) and (e) (2) with regards to provision of resources and discharge of the duties of the Accountable Manager.”
