Most of the residential customers pay $49.99 per month for sewer services.
That rate hasnât changed in years and the sewer district, which employs 10 people, still owes about $26 million to $27 million in bond for the sewer system, according to Chris Kline, county administrator and deputy Lawrence County auditor.
The county had to borrow $1.2 million to make repairs to the plant last year, he said.
While no decision has been made to sell the plant, Commission President DeAnna Holliday is concerned about district finances.
âSomething has to change for that plant to be successful,â she said. âThe plant is expensive to operate.â
IRONTON â Lawrence County officials gave pay raises April 6 to about 75 emergency medical services ambulance personnel, according to Chris Kline, county administrator.
Emergency medical technicians will get a 30-cent per hour pay increase, advanced emergency medical personnel will get a 60-cent per hour increase, and paramedics will get a $1.60 per hour rate increase, according to Kline.
The raises were approved in a closed executive session during a board meeting last Tuesday. The increase was made retroactive to March 21.
âThey will see it on their paychecks Friday,â said Commission President DeAnna Holliday last week.
âThe importance of our ambulance service depends on the level of service,â Holliday said. âWe want them to know they are valued and are important. Their jobs can save lives.â
