Schools in Hastings-Prince Edward could reopen safely, the area’s top public-health official says, but the area’s health unit is awaiting Ontario’s instructions.
The provincial lockdown will continue until at least June 2, Premier Doug Ford announced Thursday. He and other senior provincial officials did not commit to a reopening of schools before the end of the school year.

“We will be following the recommendations that will be coming from the province,” Hastings-Prince Edward’s medical officer of health, Dr. Piotr Oglaza, said in a telephone interview.

A RIDE program in Tyendinaga Township identified one impaired driver. Lennox and Addington County OPP were on Deseronto Road, near Callaghan Road, when a driver stopped and was showing signs of impairment.
As part of the investigation a Roadside Screening Device was administered and the driver was arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing.
A 73-year-old Greater Napanee man has been charged with Operation While Impaired and Operating a motor vehicle while over legal blood alcohol limit.
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in Court in Greater Napanee on June 1, 2021. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
