A rezoning request for a proposed apartment complex on West Georgia Road suffered a setback Wednesday after local residents voiced strong opposition. The Greenville County Planning Commission voted 8-1 to accept a staff recommendation to deny the rezoning sought for a 12-acre tract at West Georgia and Rocky Creek roads west of Simpsonville. A staff report concluded that changing the zoning of the property to allow for up to 20 units per acre would be too intense of a density for the area south of the Southern Connector that is dominated by single-family homes. The commission s decision means the rezoning request will need support from eight of the 12 members on Greenville County Council to win approval.
