Temperatures return to triple digits; tips for staying safe in the heat
With temperatures forecast 10 to 15 degrees above average this weekend, it’s important to remember to stay safe, especially when spending time outdoors.
The unseasonable heat can catch people, particularly visitors, off guard.
“Some people really misjudge this heat out here,” said Tammy Martin, executive director for Friends of the Desert Mountains
The Coachella Valley’s local hiking trails are a huge draw for visitors. But Martin says many are not prepared to deal with the heat.
“Make sure you have plenty of water, make sure you have your proper gear to go out, make sure that you have a cell phone that’s totally charged and make sure you have someone that knows where you’re at and what time you’re expected back,” she said.

The town of Belmont uses Open Broadband technology to provide free high-speed wi-fi to its downtown area.
DANBURY In addition to the surprising announcement from Sheriff Mike Marshall (see related story), the Stokes County Board of Commissioners on Monday night heard a presentation from a statewide company that seeks to bring internet access to underserved areas.
Kent Winrich, the Chief Technology Officer for Open Broadband, a for-profit company based in Waxhaw, near Charlotte, offered a PowerPoint presentation for the Board.
Open Broadband currently is serving in 18 North Carolina counties, “in both rural and urban areas,” Winrich said, “trying to solve the broadband problem.” He cited several as success stories for the company.

Visitation will be Friday, February 5, 2021, from 6-8 pm, at Heartland Funeral Home in Early. Bryan was born in Brownwood, to parents Sidney and Lottie McMullen Boyd of Indian Creek. Bryan attended Early High School all twelve years, excelling in football and track, running in the 880 and mile relay at the state track meet his senior year. One of his football teammates, Jerry Don Lancaster, became a lifetime friend. Bryan graduated from Early ISD in 1956.
