NEW ORLEANS - The Town of Abita Springs wants to fight a civil rights violation accusation in federal court.  The complaint was filed by plaintiff Joseph Dillon on April 19 in the Tammany Parish District Court, and the defendant Abita Spring removed the case to the U.S. District Court for Eastern Louisiana on May 5.  Dillon worked for the town doing park maintenance since 2016. In June of 2017, he informed a superior that he was HIV positive and requested the information be kept private.  In January of 2019, Dillon was promoted to event coordinator and worked closely with the mayor, enjoying several months of pleasant employment.

Gas auger goes full throttle and slices man s leg open, lawsuit against Home Depot says

NEW ORLEANS - A St. Tammany Parish man sued Home Depot and its insurance company in the St. Tammany Parish District Court last year after a gas auger malfunctioned and sliced his ankle, and the companies on March 4 moved the case to New Orleans federal court. Plaintiff Miguel Martin rented a gas auger from the Home Depot on Service Road in Slidell for drilling fence post holes in July 2019. Martin says he powered on the auger and began to operate it, at which point the gas throttle power cycled. The auger s blade then spun erratically despite Martin not touching the throttle; as a result, the blade sliced into the plaintiff s left ankle, causing a deep gash that required medical attention, the suit says.
