A TEENAGER from Sitiawan, Perak, has won an international Tamil public speaking competition, Makkal Osai reported.
The International Budding Star 2021 competition organised by the Vibrant Education group took place online in the last week of January.
More than 600 students from Malaysia, India, Singapore, United Arab Emirates and Oman took part in the competition.
Shalini Poobalachandar, 16, a former SJK (T) Mukin Pundut pupil who is now in SMK Methodist (ACS) Sitiawan, gave a speech on mother tongue language that was well received by judges who awarded her first place.

A 14-YEAR-OLD karate proponent from Kedah bagged the gold in an international martial arts e-championship, Makkal Osai reported.
The event hosted by the World Martial Arts Development Organisation in Sri Lanka on Jan 28 saw more than 1,000 participants from 29 countries.
Gayathri Suresh, who trains under the Kedah Mawashi-geri Karate Academy, was the sole representative from Malaysia.
She is also the daughter of academy founder and trainer Suresh Mariappan.
The young girl was awarded a gold medal in the 13-14 age category.
Participants had the unusual experience of showcasing their skills via online platforms.
