While Article 5 of the NATO Treaty is mentioned often enough, Estonia also pays vital attention to Article 3, President Kersti Kaljulaid says. The president was speaking in the context of Exercise Spring Storm, the large-scale annual military event which started last Monday and whose progress she saw for herself during a visit Friday.
The president said: Our article, Article 3 of the NATO Treaty, which first and foremost covers self-defense in one s own territory, is covered, while it is quite clear that our [NATO] allies have considered well how Article 5 might be applied here.
Article 5 concerns collective defense on the attack on one member state is an attack on all principle.

Regional daily Virumaa Teataja says that a recent incident involving British soldiers based in Tapa, Lääne-Viru County, is, according to its sources, not an isolated one and that other cases of behavior that some local residents say they find unacceptable have also been reported, while the issue has already been discussed at higher levels.
The director of a local high school told the daily (link in Estonian) that British soldiers had been seen smoking on the premises of the school s sports stadium, while fights between soldiers and rowdy, drunk behavior has also been reported.

The United States, at the head of the NATO military alliance, is continuing its military and diplomatic drive to encircle and subjugate Russia. Since the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact in 1991, NATO has absorbed much of Eastern Europe and, with the Euromaidan coup of 2014 in Ukraine, expanded its sphere of influence up to Russia’s border. This is the context in which the huge NATO military exercise beginning this week, Defender 2021 Europe, unfolds.
