VAEF volunteers at a vaccination centre An Epping Forest charity has been co-ordinating the volunteer support for two vaccination centres in the district since the roll-out of the national vaccination programme in December. NHS Primary Care Network West Essex CCG approached Voluntary Action Epping Forest (VAEF) to assist with the recruitment of volunteers for the Covid-19 vaccination programmes at St Margaret’s Hospital in Epping and Buckhurst Way Clinic in Buckhurst Hill. Voluntary Action Epping Forest has recruited volunteer stewards to assist at these vaccination sites and co-ordinated the rota of shifts for volunteers on each open vaccination day. VAEF staff and volunteer stewards directed the flow of traffic into car parks, assisted with parking spaces, provided wheelchairs to people with mobility problems, managed the one-way flow of patients in and out of the Vaccination Centres and generally helped with the smooth running of the vaccination process.
Trainees at the Ace Upcycling scheme at Stapleford Abbots A project offering training and mentoring to people with learning disabilities in making goods from recycled wood is continuing to flourish. Purpose built-premises have been created for Voluntary Action Epping Forest s Ace Activities Upcycling scheme in Stapleford Abbots, with vacancies for up to eight new trainees. These additional opportunities for ACE Upcycling have come thanks to help from Riverside Timber Recycling project - which has built the especially adapted workshop - and a £10,000 grant from the Essex Community Foundation. Finished articles from the projects are sold at the VAEF ACE Upcycling stand at Riverside Timber Recycling Project, Chigwell Nursery and at various local fetes. All money raised goes back into the upcycling projects.
