Award for Róisín s music idea

Templeboy woman Róisín Kilgannon has won a national award for volunteering. She was a winner in the Arts, Culture and Festivals category in the national Volunteer Ireland Awards for her commitment to Dromore West Sings. When COVID-19 hit, Róisín (a music teacher and entertainer who had to move back home to Dromore West from Cork) wanted to put together an online concert of some sort to entertain the people in the area. In creating the concept of Dromore West Sings , which was for Pieta House - Roisin brought together a very large group of people to create an event for the local community, the county, the country and around the world (people were tuned in from all over the world to watch this event taking place in the small rural village.

John honoured with Volunteer Ireland Award

Dunlavin resident John Fitzgerald has been named as a winner in the Safety and Emergency Services category in the national Volunteer Ireland Awards for his commitment to CFR Ireland and Wicklow Rapid Response. A Community First Responder (CFR) volunteer for over 20 years in the Garden County, John epitomises everything that is good about community volunteers. Working on a local level and witnessing the positivity of his and his colleagues work, John decided to make their learning known on a national level and support other like-minded volunteers wherever possible. John set about developing a national representative organisation CFR Ireland to increase awareness of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and work closely with the National Ambulance Service to increase the number of CFR Groups across Ireland.

Ennis volunteer Margaret presented with national award December 10, 2020 ENNIS local Margaret Hurley has been presented with a national award for her volunteering work. Margaret was named a winner in the Health and Wellbeing category in the national Volunteer Ireland Awards for her commitment to the Irish Wheelchair Association. Margaret Hurley has been volunteering with the Irish Wheelchair Association in Ennis for over 15 years. Known to her friends as ‘Mags’, she has been the backbone of the Ennis branch, and has been the driver, literally and metaphorically, of hundreds of activities over the years. She is currently the Branch Treasurer, but also acts as a driver of IWA’s wheelchair accessible minibus when required.

Ballyhaunis Inclusion Project wins Volunteer Ireland award A project involving asylum seekers living in Direct Provision in Ballyhaunis has won an award. The Ballyhaunis Inclusion Project has won a Volunteer Ireland 2020 award, in recognition of their work supporting people living in direct provision in the town, and connecting asylum seekers with the local community. The Ballyhaunis Inclusion Project was set up two years ago by a group of women living in the Direct Provision centre in the town, and the founder of the group - Ola Mustapha - was presented with the Christine Buckley Volunteer award last year. South West Mayo development Company and Mayo Intercultural Action, supporting the Ballyhaunis Inclusion Project, say they re delighted the project has been chosen from hundreds of nominations to receive this award from Volunteer Ireland.
