Ballyhaunis Inclusion Project wins Volunteer Ireland award
A project involving asylum seekers living in Direct Provision in Ballyhaunis has won an award.
The Ballyhaunis Inclusion Project has won a Volunteer Ireland 2020 award, in recognition of their work supporting people living in direct provision in the town, and connecting asylum seekers with the local community.
The Ballyhaunis Inclusion Project was set up two years ago by a group of women living in the Direct Provision centre in the town, and the founder of the group - Ola Mustapha - was presented with the Christine Buckley Volunteer award last year.
South West Mayo development Company and Mayo Intercultural Action, supporting the Ballyhaunis Inclusion Project, say they're delighted the project has been chosen from hundreds of nominations to receive this award from Volunteer Ireland.
