Hallmark Expanding Mahogany Collection Into More Than A Card Line

Uplifted Empowered/Hallmark More than three decades after Hallmark launched its Mahogany line, the greeting card company announced plans of expanding it “into more than a card line.” During Black History Month, the company gave away 1 million Mahogany greeting cards from its “Uplifted + Empowered” collection. The collection features 11 cards designed by a group of Mahogany writers, editors, and artists that celebrate the resilience and pride that exists within the Black community. “The story of Blackness in America is joyous and fiercely beautiful, but it is also stitched with an unending and unjust difficulty,” said Mahogany writer Courtney Taylor. “The forces of racism and systemic oppression mean a constant fight for our rights, our equality and our lives.” She noted her job at Hallmark being “all about writing those perfect words, words that heal and hold relationships together.” However, she noted that “there are not many cards that address the difficult

What gave you the idea to create this calendar? Answer: One of the earliest memories that I have is my mom reading the My Bible Friends book series to me and my sisters. I remember enjoying the stories but my favorite part was looking at the pictures. Even though I enjoyed the books I always had this nagging feeling that none of the characters in the books looked like me. I got the same feeling reading my Sabbath School lesson and also seeing my Sabbath School teacher put the little felt people up on the felt board. 

Alexis Kerr Takes on Role as VP for the Hallmark Mahogany Brand

Alexis Kerr (Image: Hallmark) Hallmark Cards, Inc. has named Alexis Kerr as its new vice president of the Hallmark Mahogany brand. The Hallmark Mahogany Brand is a greeting card line that has honored and celebrated Black culture for more than 30 years. According to the company, “the brand has earned a high degree of credibility with Hallmark customers through its culturally authentic designs and bold words of affirmation.” Kerr will be responsible for expanding and elevating how the consumers see and experience the brand in addition to expanding it into new spaces in the marketplace. “Hallmark’s investment in Mahogany will help us deepen and strengthen our relationships with existing customers, while also attracting new and diverse audiences,” said Kerr in a written statement. “I am excited to lead the team as we help more people live caring and connected lives full of meaningful moments.”
