A long time ago, Lone Tree was actually a town. It had everything that anybody could need with enough businesses to provide employment for nearly all those residents who wanted a job.
These days, that s gone. The red brick buildings of downtown fell victim to fires and neglect and the survivors have been converted to apartments. The business district shrank from 10 blocks to three, with three stores. two gas stations, one restaurant, a funeral home, and empty lots that can stand vacant for decades. We lost our grocery store in 2018, our newspaper in 2016. And there are fears that we may lose our post office and maybe our school.
Sky Ridge Medical Center awarded student volunteers pursuing academic degrees and careers in healthcare with its Sky Ridge Student Scholarship awards for the second year. The $5,000 in scholarships were awarded among four seniors based upon their length of service and commitment as student volunteers.
