Republican lawmakers in election battleground states have passed a wave of new voting requirements and limits this year, saying the measures are needed to curb voter fraud despite scant evidence of it in the United States.
Backers of the measures cite former President Donald Trump s baseless claim that fraud underlay his decisive presidential election loss to Democrat Joe Biden in November. Democrats and voting rights advocates have sued state officials over the new laws, denouncing the efforts as partisan power grabs that will disproportionately disenfranchise voters of color.

As her daughter Jenny Langton told the Bay of Plenty Times, Nancy was a woman who refused to be put in a box.

LAHORE/PESHAWAR: Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces will restrict the movement of people during the Eid holidays May 8-16 as the provincial governments stepped up measures to rein in the third wave of the coronavirus that has battered the two provinces.
The moves came as Pakistan’s active coronavirus cases stood at 84,480 after 4,113 more people tested positive, while 119 more people lost their lives to the disease in the 24 hours leading to Wednesday, according to NCOC data.
Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been on the receiving end of the third wave, accounting for a significant portion of the case load and fatalities.

LONDON/DUBAI: Opec oil output is likely to fall for a third straight month in March, a survey found on Wednesday, as the United Arab Emirates made progress in trimming supplies while maintenance and unrest cut production in exempt nations Nigeria and Libya.
The reduction by the UAE has helped boost Opec compliance this month with its production-cutting deal to 95 per cent, up from an initial February estimate of 94 per cent and a record high, according to Reuters surveys.
The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries pledged to reduce output by about 1.2 million barrels per day (bpd) from January 1 the first accord on supply curbs since 2008.
