So, Health Care Workers absolutely need to be wearing masks. They wear very hightech masks. We have a shortage of those. But theres a second benefit of masks. If we all wear masks in the public, even if theyre crude masks theyre just made out of cloth then the reasoning goes that we will all collectively breathe less particles into the air and be less likely to infect each other. Odonnell so to answer the question, people will ask, why hasnt the recommendation been clear on this from the beginning . I think there have been a number of concerns. The first is that cloth masks, that they dont really protect the awarer very well from anything. So people should not have the sense that if they go out in public with the cloth mask that theyre suddenly protected. Theyre not. They need to do social distancing, just like everybody else.
