ECU named No 1 seed in Greenville Regional

The Greenville NCAA baseball regional will be held from June 4 through June 7 at Clark LeClair Stadium in Greenville, North Carolina. The East Carolina University Pirates baseball team (41-15, 20-8 American Athletic Conference) will play the Norfolk State University Spartans (25-26, 18-10 Mid Eastern Athletic Conference) at noon on June 4. The next game on June 4 will be the University of Maryland Terrapins (28-16, 28-16 Big Ten Conference) vs the University of North Carolina Charlotte 49ers (39-19, 24-8 Conference USA) at 6 p.m. On June 5, the loser of the game between ECU and Norfolk State will play the loser of the game between Maryland and UNC Charlotte at 1 p.m. Following that, the winners of both of those games will face each other at 6 p.m.

ECU wins tournament opener against Norfolk 8-5

The No. 13 East Carolina University Pirates (42-15 American Athletic Conference) won their regional opener against Norfolk State University Spartans (25-27) 8-5 in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Greenville Regional on June 4 at Clark LeClair Stadium in Greenville, North Carolina. In the top of the first, the Spartans were able to score one run due to an error by the Pirates when senior third baseman Danny Hosely was able to bring junior center fielder Dionte Brown home. The Pirates finished off the top with three strikes against senior first baseman Mason Velasquez by starting pitcher freshman Carson Whisenhunt. In the bottom of the inning, ECU was able to score two runs off errors made by Norfolk. Freshman first baseman Josh Moylan hit a double which brought sophomore second baseman Connor Norby and junior center fielder Bryson Worrell home, which ended the first inning 2-1 for the Pirates.

Long-time athletic director and diversity and inclusion leader Derrick Gragg has been named Northwestern University’s new Combe Family Vice President for Athletics & Recreation, President Morton Schapiro announced Friday (June 4). Gragg, the NCAA’s senior vice president for inclusion, education and community engagement, will begin July 1. “I am thrilled and humbled to join the Northwestern University family at this pivotal moment in college athletics,” Gragg said. “My career has been shaped by an unwavering belief in the potential of student-athletes to excel in all areas. These young people need more support than ever in the midst of challenging, changing and exciting times.”

University Of Maryland-Baltimore County Earn The Dub During Collegiate Esports Invitational Featuring Fortnite Presented By Jersey Mike s Subs, Wins Share Of $10,000 Prize Pool

The duo team from America East's University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC) defeated Cal State Fullerton of the Big West to become the first champion of the Collegiate Esports Invitational featuring Fortnite presented by Jersey Mike's Subs today snagging the $5,000 first prize and the lion share of the $10,000 prize pool, as well as Razer products including keyboards, mice and headsets. The teams in the Finals punched their ticket after winning their respective conference tournaments on May 22.

Pirates look toward NCAA Tournament

The East Carolina University Pirates baseball team finished the season on May 22 with a 38-14 record (20-8 American Athletic Conference, 27-4 home, 11-9 away) and a No.11 ranking in the nation.  The Pirates started the season with five straight wins. Those wins were against the University of Rhode Island Rams (27-24-1, 14-6 Atlantic 10) in a three game series, the Duke University Blue Devils (28-20, 16-17 Atlantic Coastal Conference) and the first game of the series against the Georgia Southern Eagles (31-22, 14-10 Sun Belt Conference).  ECU had five series sweeps in the 2021 season. Those sweeps were against Rhode Island from Feb. 19 through Feb. 21, the Appalachian State Mountaineers (20-30, 11-10 SBC) from March 5 through March 7, the University of North Carolina Charlotte 49ers (39-17, 24-8 Conference USA) from March 12 through March 14, the Illinois State University Redbirds (22-32, 12-15 Missouri Valley Conference) from March 19 through March 21, the University of Cinci
