UPDATE: Third confirmed case of COVID-19 at Golden Plough Lodge

This outbreak was first declared January 16 with one case in the long-term care home, a second staff member contracted the Coronavirus on Friday, with the third staff member testing positive yesterday. Active medical officer of health for the Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit, Dr. Ian Gemmill, says all local long-term care homes are doing all they can to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the home. He adds that vaccines arriving locally and getting into the arms of the most vulnerable starting this week will help the situation.

The employee was last at the Golden Plough Lodge Thursday and is now at home in self-isolation. GPL administrator, Bill Detlor, says they are working closely with the Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit to ensure stringent and preventative measures are in place to keep residents and staff safe. This is the second outbreak at the facility in 2021. The first was identified in a single staff member on January 3, and there was never any spread within the home. Detlor adds that contract tracing has been completed and risk of exposure within the GPL is considered low, and no other residents or staff are showing any syptoms of COVID-19.

Positive COVID-19 case at Golden Plough Lodge

Northumberland County issued a press release on Monday night, saying the employee last worked on Saturday and is now at home in self isolation. In following provincial guidelines, the Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit has declared an outbreak. The county said the employee was asymptomatic, but received a positive result during standard bi-weekly testing of all staff. GPL administrator Bill Detlor said residents have been in cohorts since the beginning of the pandemic, and to take as many precautions as possible, every resident will be tested for the novel coronavirus.
