Louisiana man dead following police chase in Mississippi
A police chase ensued into Mississippi and ended in Harrison County this afternoon.

Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer tells WXXV the suspect is dead. The four-month-old was taken to Merit Health in Biloxi.
The suspect was identified by Louisiana authorities as 30-year-old Eric Derell Smith.
East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office BRSO responded to a 911 hang up call at approximately 11:30 this morning in the 2000 block of Richmond Street in Baker.
When deputies arrived on scene, they found that two individuals were shot.
The suspect, Eric Derell Smith reportedly fled in a blue Nissan Altima with dark tinted windows. Smith reportedly had a 4-month-old child with him in the vehicle.

HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. (WAFB) - A double homicide suspect from the Baker area is now dead and the baby the suspect allegedly abducted is in stable condition at a Biloxi area hospital, according to Biloxi Police Chief John Miller.
WLOX-TV, WAFB’s sister station in Biloxi, Miss., is reporting the suspect, Eric Derell Smith, died in an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement after a police pursuit that began near the Louisiana/Mississippi state line.

BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - The three-month old child who police say was kidnapped by his father in Louisiana has died after a police shootout on Monday.
Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer told WLOX the three-month old infant died at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday at a Mobile hospital. The infant has been identified as La’Mello Parker, a boy who was born Jan. 23, 2021.
