Data-driven technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), can be harnessed to help us tackle complex challenges, from climate change to levelling up the UK’s regions. But as is so often the case in times of great crisis, Covid-19 has forced us to quickly adapt how we use technology to tackle the pandemic and protect the most vulnerable.

Four music groups are inviting technology companies to help them reach new audiences, writes JULENA DRUMI Technology, already permeating much of our lives, is now being called upon to help four music organisations play a different tune. With the help of £80,000 of government arts funding, each one is seeking the support of tech-savvy entrepreneurs who can help them reach new audiences. Businesses that can provide the innovative, data-driven solutions the groups are looking for will each receive up to £20,000. Scottish Opera, the Scottish Ensemble orchestra, music venue Pianodrome and charity Drake Music Scotland all hope to benefit from the University of Edinburgh-led initiative.

Tech firms to pitch for cash at EIE21

Picture: Stewart Attwood The EIE21 tech investor conference is set to take place in June with 25 Scottish firms among those pitching for up to £2 million of investment. A further seven start-ups from further afield have also been chosen to take part in the virtual event on June 10. Among them are Transwap, a Singapore fintech in the process of setting up in Scotland, London-based fintech Bridgeweave and iLoF, a digital health specialist based in Oxford. EIE is a year-round programme run by the University of Edinburgh’s Bayes Centre in partnership with the Data-Driven Innovation (DDI) initiative. The year-round programme is highlighted by a day of pitching to investors from around the world for seed level funding up to £2m or more.
