Robinson: County Council Update

Robinson: County Council Update Los Alamos County Council Let me begin this column with a brief COVID-19 update. Los Alamos’s hard work has resulted in us achieving green status on Feb. 24. This new status has reduced restrictions on our businesses and recreational facilities. Additionally, if we can maintain green status for two consecutive periods, our community will move to the turquoise level. This newest level lifts almost all restrictions, and brings us closer to “normal”. Currently, the County has held several vaccination clinics, with many more planned. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine has received emergency use authorization, and soon we will have three types of vaccine. The Council will continue to fight to get as many vaccines to our community as possible. Until then, the weekly Curative testing at Overlook Park will continue.

Fleming: Let s Make Our Town Cohesive!

By purchasing CB Fox, the county could rent it affordably to retail and restaurants that already exist in this town but desperately need better locations, so they are visible and accessible! Courtesy/B. Fleming By BRENDA FLEMING Los Alamos  The county is accepting recommendations on whether to buy the CB Fox building and the Real Deal theater, and if they do purchase them – what to do with them.  We have great small businesses in this town. We have a beautiful, walkable, bikeable mainstreet – our beloved Central Avenue. Yet, there is a major disconnect. Those small businesses are scattered around this town like Easter eggs in the Amazon Jungle. And, more and more office spaces are moving to our beautiful, yet dying mainstreet.
